Education Outreach
CIR encourages all high school students to take an interest in the world around them, learn about foreign policy, listen to leaders from around the world, and participate in current events discussions. We provide several ways in which students can become more involved than simply attending events. Students are invited to monthly World Affairs luncheons free of charge where their views and opinions are a valuable addition to the discussions. Speakers, who are sometimes part of international visitor groups, are sent to schools to discuss international topics and provide counsel on international careers. Students are also welcomed at lectures as part of the International Lecture Series.
Special events for designated students are also provided. Modeled after the World Affairs Discussion luncheons and dinners, the annual all-student discussion luncheon invites students to debate among themselves after hearing about an issue. Scholarships are available to students who attend the Summer Seminar series, meet with advisors and write a paper following independent study. The International Youth Project is a student-led group that organizes social and educational events such as home-cooked international dinners and foreign film social events. Mentors with an international perspective are available upon request.
All of these opportunities are provided to designated students through the Education Outreach Committee. Internships in the CIR administrative office are also available. For more information about student participation, please contact the CIR office.
